Questions and Answers

Most frequently asked questions:

Q: Rates and Trip Quotes?

A: Our current MKVL rates are under Booking. Trip costs vary considerably depending upon the number of persons in the party, number of days scheduled, type of accommodations, time of the year, etc. Wildlife safaris per person per day can range from 160 USD to 250 USD using tents to 300 USD to 1000 USD staying in lodges. Kili treks per person range from 1,500 USD to 2,500 USD a climb.

The owner/operator of MKVL is also a highly experienced tour operator with many good contacts. He is in an excellent position to customize a package for safaris and treks at competitive rates.

Q: When is the best time of the year to 1) Go on Wildlife Safari 2) Climb Mount Kilimanjaro? 3) Get up to the lodge and view Mt. Kili?

A: Wildlife Safari--Most any time except April-Mid June the Rainy Season; 2) Dry Season January -Mid March and June-October. Surprisingly, Christmas and New Years most popular but higher risk of bad weather! The Rainy Season makes getting up to the lodge more challenging on the steep dirt road and, being frequently in clouds, the odds are reduced of getting a picturesque view of Mt. Kili. However, many guests still enjoy the excitement of the ride and appreciate the cooler sub 50 degrees Fahrenheit ( 19.8 degrees Celsius ) temperatures at night.

Q: Which trekking route do you recommend for Mt. Kili?

A: It depends on what condition you are in and what you are looking for in terms of difficulty and scenery. Review the information on the Mt. Kilimanjaro page that describes the various routes.

Q: What is the driving time from Kilimanjaro International Airport to MKVL?

A: Approximately 90 minutes.

Q:What activities are offered at MKVL?

A: Go to Activities under The Lodge.

A: 2,800m or 9600 feet.

Q: What is the best time to come to your lodge?

A: April and May is the rainy season and sometimes our road gets a little challenging; however, each month of the year has advantages to be in Tanzania for the many attractions.

Q: What do the local people do?

A: Mostly farming, with bananas, coffee and maize being the major crops.

Q: What is the most popular food in Tanzania?

A: Ugali, which is a stiff porridge

Q: What is the best means of transportation?

A: Generally, it is not advisable to rent your own vehicle, especially if you are planning to go on a wildlife safari. We make available good transportation to and from our lodge enabling one to relax more and enjoy all the niceties that Tanzania has to offer.
